YOUTH ART SCHOLARSHIPS ENCOURAGE THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE ARTS IN THE HUON
Cotton Duck Gallery has joined forces with the Noakes Youth Foundation and together are delighted to announce that twenty-four, full art scholarships will be made available each year for Huon Valley youth aged between 14-25 years old.
With the arts community in the Huon Valley growing by the day, these scholarships are designed to enhance the creative skills the areas youth have gained though their school training, and take them to the next level in their artistic pursuits.
The twenty-four scholarships will be divided into three courses of eight lucky students which will be run throughout the year. Held at Cotton Duck Gallery in Geeveston, the scholarships will cover all costs of the courses, including materials and tuition.
Luke Hibel, co-owner of Cotton Duck Gallery will be the tutor and when asked what this opportunity will mean to the youth in the area he replied, “I see it as the chance for the areas talented and up and coming artists to go beyond the basics they are taught in schools and colleges and teach them what is required to go on and become successful artists.”
“Every artist is inspired by different subject matter and themes; I hope to be able to work closely with all the students over the year to help develop their individual styles and techniques. Artists by nature are generally very shy people, I hope to be able to encourage the Huon youth to believe they can do whatever they set out to achieve, both in art as in life.”
The owners of Cotton Duck Gallery couldn’t be happier about the eight students they will be sponsoring and are eternally grateful the support that has been thrown behind the youth venture by Noakes Youth, headed by Kermandie Hotel and Marine owner, Sean Langman.
Noakes Youth was founded in 2005 as way of bringing together youths from diverse backgrounds so that they may come to understand different aspects of life other than the one they know. An equal and understanding Australia means that everyone has the opportunity of experience and for doing the things they love.
Historically Noakes has only offered youth opportunities in the field they operate in, the marine industry. When asked about the move into the arts, Sean founder of Noakes Youth said “We wanted to bring together a group of like-minded young artists who are all passionate about art. We are hoping our scholarship will give these kids the chance to not only grow in their artistic ability but also in themselves, giving them confidence to follow their dreams and do what they love to do best - because this is truly important.”
Cotton Duck Gallery is currently seeking Huon Valley youths interested in receiving an arts scholarship for the second round, due to begin in December. For more information please contact Luke on 6297 9966.
